Real Madrid vs Mallorca | Spanish Primera Division | Round 17 | Preview

Real Madrid have yet to fail to win a league match at the Bernabeu this season and they will do their best to triumph at home again in their first match at the stadium in 2010. They will face Mallorca, who have become the most surprising team of the season and are currently fourth on the league table.

Real Madrid have scored 28 goals in their eight home games in La Liga this season, averaging 3.5 strikes per clash. Mallorca are the only other team in the championship to have won all their home games during the present campaign.

Mallorca won’t be able to count on Tuni due to injury, but former Real Madrid youth teamers Corrales, Borja Valero, Ruben, Oscar Diaz and Julio Alvarez may get the chance to play at the Bernabeu.

Fifteen goals have been scored in the last five games between Real Madrid and Mallorca at the Bernabeu. This figure guarantees spectacle, especially now that the Whites are the top scoring side in La Liga, the Champions League and the whole of Europe.

The Madridistas also top rankings on assists (198), shots on target (317), ball possession and plays withing their opponent’s box (107).

Pellegrini press conference

Manuel Pellegrini addressed the media after this morning’s training session.

Is Kaka fit to be a starter?
We didn’t use him last week because he wasn’t ready to play. He trained normally with the squad this week and has therefore been called up.

Has the Medical Staff limited the time Kaka may perform, as they did with Cristiano Ronaldo?
They’re injuries were completely different, but Kaka obviously isn’t fit to play an entire game yet.

How is Garay feeling?
He had minor physical problems and didn’t train with the rest for two days. I hope he is fit to play.

Can Kaka and Van der Vaart play together?
I hope my 23 players are all in optimum form. Footballers can all play with each other and a squad should always be motivated in its entirety. I am glad both Van der Vaart and Kaka are ready to play the match.

Will Guti make the cut?
He’s on the squad list. Guti has recovered from his injury and he is ready to gradually make a comeback. He is an important player with technical quality that makes him stand out. The doors to every squad list are open to him.

Are Kaka, Cristiano, Benzema and Higuain compatible with each other as starters?
You could add Raul and Van Nistelrooy to that list. We’ve tried out many options to find the best possible attacking front. All these players have similar characteristics and I guess the four men you mentioned could play at the same time. We used to score many goals before, but critics nevertheless didn’t like how we played.

Angola 4-4 Mali

Mali produced one of the biggest comebacks in African football history by coming back from four goals down to draw 4-4 with hosts Angola in the Orange Africa Cup of Nations opener on Sunday.

The hosts cheered by an expectant crowd at the 50,000 capacity newly built November 11 Stadium in Luanda including President Jose Eduardo dos Santos started on high note with a performance that sparkled their ambitions to go farthest in the competition.

Flavio set the stadium on fire with the opener on 35 minutes with a diving header from Gilberto’s free-kick before doubling the four minutes from half time with another header from Mabinda’s cross from the right, as the hosts managed a two goal lead at half time.

Mali resumed more purposeful with captain Mahamadou Diarra and Frederic Kanoute being rewarded with scoring opportunities in the opening minutes and having failed to make the most of the opportunities, their plight was further worsened moments later as the hosts scored two goals from the spot after left winger Gilberto was fouled on both occasions.
