Florentino Perez, President of Real Madrid + ZIZOU!!!

After the Electoral Board announced officially that “D. Florentino Perez has been proclaimed as the new President of Real Madrid” Florentino Perez officially took office as President of Real Madrid at the investiture ceremony held at the Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Investiture for Florentino

The investiture started with Vicenete Boluda’s farewell speech, who said he was “proud and satisfied” of having had the chance to be at the helm of the institution. After the Spokesman of the Electoral Board, Lorenzo Alvarez Martin,  proclaimed the new President, Florentino Perez gave his inuagural speech. The new Real Madrid Premier said he and his Board will “work as hard we can to live up to the challenges that lay ahead.” Perez’s main goal is to “return Real Madrid to where it belongs and we will work feverishly, calmly and patiently while carefully taking into account every minute detail. Our Club has been and is essential to the history of Football, which is why it must always be a model.  We must not forget that our prestige and our image are the most valued treasures we have and what we have accomplished over the 107 of history.” Many important political and sports personalities attended the event.

Emilio Butragueño was one of the first to react to Florentino Perez’s invesiture. The former player said the Club must have “stability and a long-term strategy.”

We expect the best in this new era. This is what this team has to aspire to. This is the best club of the past century and earning that title wasn’t easy. The institution is the first thing we must think of. There should be stability and a long-term strategy. I’m sure that will set the ground to have a champion team. The team can win or lose, which is what sport is about, but Real Madrid cannot afford to walk astray and its values should always be present. Real Madrid must compete to be the best. We can’t guarantee victories, but I’m sure the team will fight hard for every title.

Real Madrid President of Honor, Alfredo di Stefano was among the first to congratulate Florentino Perez and his Board.

I wished him good lick and congratulated him. We must recover hope and excitement and try to return the team to where it has always belonged. We must defend the players and promise fans that the team will be improved and have a better season. We expect a lot from those who come. As stated by the President, we must return to the top of world football. We must find solutions to things, fix them and have a little luck so that Real Madrid fans have fun and enjoy watching the team play.

First measures adopted by the Real Madrid Board of Directors

During their first meeting today, the new Board of Directors Presided over by Florentino Perez, approved the code of ethics and behavior that will govern the conduct of all Members of the Board. Post-match comments

Real Madrid Castilla’s Gary and Tebar were pleased with their first team debuts against Osasuna. Despite losing the final match of the season, Juande Ramos was satisfied with his players’ performance. Michel Salgado and Marcelo offererd their thoughts on Real Madrid’s final match of the season.

CA Osasuna 2-1 Real Madrid CF (5)

Gary:

I wasn’t able to finish the match because all the hype caught up to me and I began cramping up. I am happy that the coach had faith in me and my teammates supported the decision. It’s a shame I coudn’t finish. The team was right there, but the two red cards, especially Michel’s, changed the course of the match. Everything having to do with the first team is different than Castilla. This experience is incredible.

Tebar:

I am somewhat pleased. I am happy that I debut, but I wish we had at least drawn. Osasuna took advantage of our two red cards, but we hung in there. It’s a pity we couldn’t finish off the season with a better result. This was a great opportunity. It was very special. The coach gave me some instructions before I came on. He said it was a tough match and that I should stay calm.

Juande:

Nerves tend to run wild when there is so much at stake. The referee has some tough calls to make. There was a lot of tension, but we tried to put forth our best effort to not affect the outcome of the league. The lack of motivation in football is hard to explain. When the season ended for us we noticed a bit of relaxation.

Salgado:

The red card was a bad call. I think everyone saw it, but the referee believed it was a foul and I have nothing more to say. A player must ask for forgiveness after doing something badly, but they don’t say they are sorry or correct themselves. I don’t decide if I will be playing for Real Madrid next year. It’s up to the new coach. The names of the president and coach have yet to be decided, but they will call the shots. I hope this wasn’t my last match for Real Madrid. It’s hard to comment on the relegation of Betis, but it would have been just as hard had it been Osasuna, Getafe or Valladolid. It’s a sad day for football.

Marcelo:

The fans went crazy for their team. It was already a complicated match before the send-offs, but we played as best we could and had a chance to score the equaliser. The season got off to a rocky start, but the second half was very good other than the last few matches. I am pleased with how I finished the season, but I want to continue working hard.

Osasuna 2-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid showcased the same spirit that helped them stand undefeated for 17 straight weeks. Higuain scored, catching up with Raul’s 24-goal count this campaign, but Osasuna fought hard for a victory and managed to avoid relegation.

CA Osasuna 2-1 Real Madrid CF (1)

Osasuna had the first chances on goal through crosses by Puñal and Juanfran that Iker Casillas managed to grab. Real Madrid were much more effective and scored from their first chance; Lass served a great ball to Higuain, who dribbled past Monreal inside the box and sent the ball in grazing the far post (11′). Osasuna were one step closer to the Second Division, but they never gave up.

The Whites’ goal made the locals react and Plasil scored on the 15-minute mark with a strong shot with his right foot that Iker failed to save. Both teams tried hard to score in the following minutes; Juanfran had a chance from a bad clearance by Van der Vaart (19′), Nekounam failed to finish off a pass from Plasil (21′) and Raul tried to score from outside the box in the 27th minute, but it was deflected by a defender and a corner kick was awarded. Nekounam nearly netted a goal from a great shot, but Marcelo managed to clear it on the goal-line.

The Brazilian sent the ball over the crossbar right at the start of the second half. Michel Salgado was sent off with a red card for tackling Plasil right outside the box. This was a great chance for Osasuna, but they failed to score from the free-kick. Moments later, the locals were awarded another free-kick. Metzelder cleared it with his head, but the ball went towards Juanfran, who scored from a terrific volley-shot (60’). Despite this setback, Real Madrid never lost face and kept trying to net a second strike.

Juande Ramos replaced Gary with Tebar. Both youth teamers played well in their first team debut, joining forces with Metzelder in the centre of the defence. Osasuna dominated throughout the remaining 30 minutes. Masoud, Plasil and Nekouman tried to net more strikes, but the score remained 2-1 in favour of the locals, who will continue to play in the First Division next year.
