Guti ruled out against Barcelona
Jose Maria Gutierrez ‘Guti’ suffered a knock to his left ankle during Wednesday’s training session and has been ruled out of Saturday’s match against Barcelona.

Following further medical review, it has been determined that Guti suffered a Grade II external lateral ligament sprain. He will not play against Barcelona and will be looked at again by the medical team to determine how much time he will miss.
Robben and Sneijder reduce their recovery time and train on the pitch
Wesley Sneijder was injured on 18 April against Recreativo Huelva and was expected to miss four to five weeks. Arjen Robben was hurt in the Getafe match last week and all signs pointed to a two to three week absence. Both players however have exceeded all expectations and today trained on the Valdebebas pitch eager to be fully healed by Saturday.
If either of the two are assured of being fit for the Clasico it would be Arjen Robben, who trained at a faster rhythm than his counterpart. Robben began today’s session by jogging with his teammates before training in solitary. Once on his own and under the supervision of recovery expert Carlos Lalin, Robben was able to get his first touch on a ball since falling injured..
It’s still to early to say whether Robben will suit up or not, but one thing is certain. There is no lack of desire to play. Those who know him know he will do whatever it takes to participate in the Clasico, and based on what was seen today, no one should doubt his commitment. Robben has two sessions left to prove he’s physically fit for action.
Drenthe’s second child born on Wednesday in Madrid
Royston Drenthe became a dad for the second time on Wednesday when his daughter, who weighed 7.9 pounds, was born at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital in Madrid. Both mother and child are in perfect health.
Raul press conference
Raul knows just how important this Clasico is and believes Real Madrid can win.

Is this the most important Clasico of your career?
These games are always special because of the rivalry, and they’re even more special when there’s five games left in the season and the title is at stake for us. Everyone wants to play this game and all football fans will watch it.
Do you feel winning against Barcelona would make it easier to win the title?
Sure. We’ll have more chances to win. Everything different from a victory would make winning the title more difficult. Nevertheless, Barcelona will depend solely on theirselves even if we beat them. We want our streak to continue. We’ll have four games left after Saturday and we want to win all of them. We want to make the fans happy because many things have happened this season and all of us have suffered. All of us players are very excited about it. we want to do well and win.
Barcelona play good football and Real Madrid are having an impressive run. Is this the most uncertain Clasico there’s ever been?
Both teams are having an excellent season in La Liga. We’ve had a run that’s hard to improve on, and so have they. They’ve played great games and we will try to be superior to them on Saturday. We will try to play an intense game from the start. They play a match every three days and we will try to make good use of that.
After the first leg Clasico many believed Barcelona were going to win the title. Are you anxious for a rematch?
It was an important victory for them and no-one believed in us back then. We’ve had a good run that’s put us in the situation we’re in now. We’ve done a good job, focusing on each game at a time. That’s how we’ve reached a situation in which we can dream about winning the title.
Barcelona are plagued with good players. Which is your favourite?
They are all great. Barcelona’s merit lies in the fact that, besides having those players, they are a united and well-balanced team. Every man is an essential part of the team. Whenever the coach has needed different men at times, they’ve always responded well.
But which player would you rather didn’t play? Xavi, Iniesta, Messi…
I want them all to be there. They have excellent players, so if I were to decide, none of them would be there. Xavi controls their game and they will have many chances to score if he plays well. There are no words to describe how good their forwards are.
What role do you think Messi will play?
Messi is a phenomenal player, one of the most decisive footballers in the world. We’ll have to keep an eye on him. It is practically impossible to stop him when he has a good day.
Do you think this is the strongest Barça you’ve ever faced?
A team is judged at the end of the year by its results, but I believe they have one the best squads I’ve seen. They have many unsettling players and they are the only team that’s still alive in all three competitions. That says a lot.
Barcelona have drawn two games. Do you think a draw would be a good result for Real Madrid?
Winning is all that counts now. Barcelona haven’t won their last two games and we are more prepared for a victory. Their squad and psychological strength allows them to win at any stadium, but we’ll try to avoid that. We hope their bad streak continues and that we managed to take three points. Drawing the match would give them too large a lead and this is an essential clash for us. They can afford not to win, but we can’t.
Rumour has it they may be scared…
I don’t think they are. They have chances of winning and they will try to pull that off, especially knowing that winning here would make it easier for them to win the title.
There’s talk about Juande staying on for the next season…
He has his job and career to his credit. We don’t think about that now; our minds are set on our next game. The Club will decide what it must. We just feel he is doing a good job.
What’s the key to the fact that Real Madrid now have chances of winning the league title?
Our daily and weekly work, and the faith we have in ourselves. We’ve had some complicated games, but we’ve fought to the end and won thanks to the drive the history of the Club gives us. That’s what’s put us in this situation, but we admit we would like it to be even better. We want to be able to dream about winning the title after the match.
Do Real Madrid have more faith in earning a victory than Barcelona?
We have faith in our work and we know we can win the match and hurt Barcelona, but it’s hard to win against a team that plays at such a high level.
Do you feel better than them for the first time this season?
No. Barcelona are leaders because they deserve to be. We are in an excellent situation after months of working hard when people didn’t believe in us. We have a chance to finish it all off now. We still have complicated away games left, but if we win and keep this streak up, they may drop some points.
It seems neither team wants to be regarded as favourite to win. Who do you think is the favourite?
Real Madrid are favouirtes when they play at the Bernabeu. It will be an even match, but the atmosphere at the stadium will help us win. That will motivate us even more.
Has the squad talked about the chance of winning the goal average?
The only thing we think about is winning. We must be humble and respect our opponent, but we could also look for something extra in the game.
Has Guti’s absence for the game sunk in yet?
It’s a shame about Guti and I hope he makes it to the match, but it seems impossible after the blow he received and the way he limped this morning. He played well in our last few games and he looked ready to help the team considerably. We are nevertheless recovering other important players and the coach will use the men he thinks are best for the match.
How important is the return of Robben and Heinze?
Having them on hand gives the coach more possibilities and their recovery is very positive. It seemed complicated, but they’ve been training for days now and everything looks to be going well.
Their recovery must be important for the team…
Robben has been essential to us because he is unsettling and it is always much better to have him on the pitch. Nevertheless, other players have taken his spot and done well too. Heinze is also important because he knows Messi and will know how to stop him better than the rest of us. But we should look at the team as a whole. That will make stopping them easier for us.
What role do you think the Dutch players are having this season?
I think they’ve integrated well to the Club and that they’ve all helped with their style. They are young professionals and the experience they are getting here will help them improve even more.
Should Real Madrid try to steal the ball from Barcelona or wait at the back for a chance to counterattack?
We’ll have to do both things. We’ll get chances to do both. They will dominate in some instances of the match, but we will have to go get them first and steal the ball using the atmosphere at the stadium. We need it in order to be confident throughout the match. Nevertheless, we all know a game can drastically change in just one minute.
How do you think you will defend?
We want to steal the ball and make things hard for them. It’s not that teams usually wait at the back for them to come; on the contrary, Barcelona keep them there with their chances on goal and it’s hard to get out. Our coach knows what we must do, but things may happen that could prompt a change in our game.
Chelsea and Valencia drew against them by waiting at the back and counterattacking. Do you think that will be the key to defeating them on Saturday?
Chelsea got what they wanted, but Barcelona failed to capitalise on some chances that could have changed the entire match.
Maybe the difference between this year’s Clasico in Madrid is Guardiola…
He plays a key role because he’s managed to instill a particular style in his players and they seem happier than in previous years. Some men that weren’t in good form before are playing well now and the coach is to blame. I’m happy for him because I know, respect and admire him. It must fill him with satisfaction to see his team playing so well. I’m happy for that.
People say you will have to fiercely mark men like Messi…
It’s normal for players like him to be in the receiving end of kicks more often. They try to make a difference, but I don’t think they receive an excessive amount of aggressiveness. It’s normal.
Do you feel stronger in games like these?
This is the game. Everyone talks about it and you know the whole world is watching. Every player dreams about playing such a match and I’ve been lucky to take part in many and star in some. I hope the whole team is the star on Saturday.
Will you also score a hat trick against Barcelona?
I don’t think so. I’ve only scored three hat tricks in 15 years. I wish I could pull it off again, but I just really want Real Madrid to win.
Marcelo to AS
With two days left until the Clasico kicks off, Marcelo sat down with AS to discuss the big game.

You must be living on cloud nine right now.
I really am. I think this is the best form I have been in since arriving in Madrid. I am happy, I am scoring goals and I am in great shape, but I have to continue working hard.
To what extent is Juande responsible for your success?
A large part of it. He has given me a lot of confidence. He speaks to me during every training session and I know exactly what to do in matches. He motivates me.
So if you were the next president you would give him a contract extension.
Without a doubt, and there’s no need to say why. His arrival was a turning point. We haven’t lost in 18 matches.
Have you prepared a special celebration for if you score on Saturday?
No. I never think that I am going to score and how I will celebrate. It all changes when I am on the pitch, though, where I want to help my team.
Do you prefer to play where Juande has positioned you or as a left-back?
I just want to play. I still don’t know if I will on Saturday or not, but I am working hard to be ready for Barcelona. I want to help Madrid, just like I did against Sevilla
How would you describe the 18-match streak without a defeat?
It’s a product of lots of hard work and dedication. I think the key is that we are a solid group that works a lot and does whatever it takes to win La Liga.
Do you think Madrid are getting the credit they deserve for this incredible turnaround?
A lot of people didn’t believe we would get so close, but here we are. It’s not a matter of giving us credit or not. Things are going well and we’re seeing the results. We haven’t lost in 18 matches and I think the streak will continue because we can defeat Barcelona.
Isn’t it dangerous that the euphoria surrounding Real Madrid following wins against Getafe and Sevilla continues to increase?
No. We are cautious and know that we can only accomplish our goal by taking one match at a time.
Have you spoken to Pepe since he was suspended?
Yes. He is a good friend. He has cheered up a little, but let’s not talk about that match any more.
How do you think the Clasico will be?
It will be a tough match, but it’s one that everyone dreams about playing in. The hype begins several weeks before the match. This will be the most-heated Clasico in the world.
Do you think Barcelona will come in as a tired team after the Champions League match?
The Champions League wears you down, but Barça are a complete team and it will make winning on Saturday very difficult.
Would you like to see Barcelona eliminated from the Champions League or do you prefer that they make it to the final?
Honestly, we never speak about Barça. We don’t care whether they win or lose. We focus on ourselves.
Would you rather defeat Barcelona the way you defeated Getafe or Sevilla?
I just want to win. I don’t care if it’s 1-0 or 3-2. I want to win and we will win.
And if you end up winning La Liga…
We haven’t thought about the end of La Liga. We’re thinking about Barça now and then we’ll think about Valencia.
Madrid has proven to be a fresh team in the closing minutes of matches.
Physically speaking we are in much better shape than before. It’s not that we were weaker before. We are just much better off now. We give it our all in every single match.
You will be up against Dani Alves on Saturday.
Cannavaro and I spoke about him on Monday. He’s been playing well. He defends, attacks, takes free kjcks… He is currently one of the best defenders in the world.
Would you sign him?
Of course, but no matter what is said Madrid have no reason to be envious of Barcelona.
They don’t have Raul. Many have given him up for dead, but he sure looked good against Sevilla with a hat-trick.
Amazing. I have always said and always will say that Raul is a role model. People know just how good he is in front of goal. Scoring a hat-trick in such a difficult match is unfathomable.
What is it that you most admire about the captain?
I am most impressed with his humility. He always talks to us and is aware of what is going on. He’s like a big brother. I don’t like reading a lot of what is written about him because he is a role model. He is phenomenal.
Van der Vaart press conference
Rafael van der Vaart insisted the team is anxious for Saturday to arrive and ready to do whatever it takes to win.

How does the team feel with three days left until the Clasico?
There’s a great vibe. There’s a little tension, but this is an important match that plays a big role in the way the competition plays out. There’s a great atmosphere.
Will Robben be ready by Saturday?
He trained today and he’s in good shape. I hope he can participate.
Did you see last night’s Barça-Chelsea match?
I did and it really wasn’t Barcelona’s best game, but it was great tactically. I am sure we’ll see a completely different Barcelona on Saturday.
How does knowing you have to win out to win the league affect you?
We all know we need to win every match, but Barcelona are in great form as well. We must fight until the end if we want to be champions.
What has been the key to the team’s recent competitive nature?
We have won all our recent matches and are now four points off Barcelona. They also want to win, but I think we still have a good chance. Barcelona are great in many facets, but when we stay behind the ball we always return to a more advanced position. It’s different.
Have you drawn any conclusions from Barcelona’s matches against Valencia and Chelsea?
They were tough matches. Valencia, Chelsea, Villarreal coming up… Barcelona played a bit better than Valencia and Chelsea. We hope to win on Saturday.
Will you use the Chelsea match as a guide to stopping Messi?
Messi is human despite looking like a robot most of the time. He’s one of the best players in the world, but Chelsea also have good players.
If Madrid win on Saturday, will the league be over even though you will still be behind by a point? Will Barcelona completely stumble?
I think so. If we win I think they will get very nervous. But we also have to play and beat Valencia, Villarreal… There are five games left and the match against Barcelona may play a big role.
Zidane to Realmadrid.com
Zinedine Zidane experienced the thrill of victory against Barcelona during his time as a Madridista. The Frenchman sat down with Realmadrid.com for a brief chat about Saturday’s Clasico.

Winning the Clasico is essential. Real Madrid must defeat Barcelona if they want to win La Liga. They need to lean on their fans for support.
Barcelona are playing great football so it should be a great match. But I insist that if Real Madrid win out everything will change and finishing as champions is a lot likelier.
Defeating Barcelona would be like throwing the hammer down and it would give Real Madrid a good chance of finishing as league champion. Moving within one point would give them a good chance of reclaiming the title.
Casillas press conference
Iker Casillas said the team will have to concentrate hard if they are to win against Barcelona on Saturday.

Would you be nervous if you were in Barcelona’s shoes?
I don’t think they should be nervous. They are leadders with a four-point cushion, but the next two weeks are very important to them. They have to keep the lead they currently have.
Do you think they’re scared?
I think what’s obvious is that Real Madrid have reduced their lead by eight points and that the Clasico will pit two teams that are fighting for the league title against each other. Anything can happen. I would nevertheless prefer to be in their shoes.
What do you think about when you hear people say you are favourites to win on Saturday?
Barcelona play exquisite football and we have been more efficient with our results. We are the only team that is facing up to them in La Liga. I hope people have fun on Saturday and that all Madridistas are happy after the match. It will the best Clasico of all time.
What do you think you can benefit from in tonight’s clash between Barcelona and Chelsea?
I selfishly believe that their complicated calendar is going to exhaust them. Nevertheless, they were in a similar situation in the first leg of the league and they won. I’m not going to say I want Chelsea to win, but I do want Barcelona’s players to feel tired.
Real Madrid’s run in the second leg is being impressive…
What we are doing in La Liga since I arrived is the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen. We would have been champions in any other edition of the competition with these numbers. Luck stands by you when you work and train well. The team feels fine.
Who do you think is favourite to win the Clasico?
That’s hard to say. One team plays at home while the other is the current leader. It will be an important and beautiful fixture. Anything can happen.
What will be the key to your game on Saturday?
We will have to concentrate hard. Barcelona have many decisive players that can be problematic if we have a downslide. We will have to capitalise on every chance we have on their goal.
How would you describe the spirits on the squad?
We are careful but happy because we are doing a good job. Our calendar is more complicated than theirs.
Would you celebrate this league title more than any other?
Our most exciting league title was the one we won with Capello. This year is equally complicated. We’ve done everything in our power to prevent Barcelona from already being the champions. They realise there is another side fighting for it.
Your squad is very reliable, isn’t it?
The success of a player lies in the confidence his coach has in him. Marcelo is a clear example; he is now an important player. Higuain has also bloomed. It’s important to have faith in them so that they help the team out.
Do you think Casquero’s missed penalty will play a crucial role in the fight for the title?
I don’t know. It will be crucial if we become leaders. What happened on Tuesday is very rare and it luckily helped us. The next two games will be decisive.
Who is more dangerous on goal, Messi or Eto’o?
They are both very good. Samuel is more of a true striker and he is also very fast. Messi manages to keep the ball stuck to his feet and resolves many situations. I nevertheless believe Xavi is more dangerous because he is Barcelona’s motor.
Raul to AS and Marca
Just days away from the Clasico, Raul sat down with AS and Marca to discuss the team’s incredible form heading into the big game.

The Bernabeu will support us on Saturday. Barcelona are a great team and no one can argue about how well they are playing, but that is exactly what makes what we are accomplishing even more impressive. We will play our hearts out until 31 May, the last day of the season, to win this league. What we have accomplished seemed almost impossible until recently, but we’re in the thick of things thanks to lots of hard work. I’d rather emphasize the work done by the team, the coaches and all those involved with the team because this wouldn’t have been possible without any of them. This group is standing as one and very competitive. We have a real chance and will fight until the very end. Fans should be proud whether we win La Liga or not. This team’s spirit is what makes turnarounds possible. There is something special about this shirt, this history, this crest…
Post-match comments
Juande Ramos was extremely satisfied with his team’s victory over Sevilla, which allows them to be just four points behind Barcelona on the league table. Marcelo scored a goal and Torres gave a solid performance. Both men were very happy with the victory in Seville. Christoph Metzelder returned to a starting lineup against Sevilla and couldn’t have done better; he played brilliantly and even served an assist. Raul will never admit it, but he was the star in Real Madrid’s 4-2 victory over Sevilla thanks to his impressive hat trick. The captain was especially proud of the team tonight.

JUANDE RAMOS
Games last for 90 minutes. Sevilla dominated the first 20 or 25 minutes. They had a strong start and we failed to keep possession, but we dominated the second part of the first half. I think the key to our victory was scoring the equaliser just before half-time. We had complete control over the second half. The situation we were in only allowed room for a victory. We are satisfied and must now wait for next week’s game to come.
Sevilla dominated at first, but we were superior from then on and deserved the victory. Our superiority made us win. We all knew we had to try even more to win the match.
I just focus on my team and on what we can improve on. I don’t look at the weaknesses of an opponent. We managed to change things in the second half and I’m satisfied with that.
It feels nice. We’ve been winning for weeks. This is our seventeenth victory. Despite our hard work, we seemed to fail to cut distances short until now. It is hard not to see your efforts pay off. There are five games left and many more points are at stake. A very important part of the league will be at stake in our home match against Barcelona.
MARCELO
My goal was nice, but what’s important is that we took three points. There are many games left in the season and we have to fight hard to win the title. We won’t achieve anything if we don’t fight.
It was a tough game, just like we expected. We managed to score and we won. We must continue to play like this in order to win the title. I think the team is united, and that’s important. The match against Barcelona will be very tough; no game is easy.
TORRES
The team worked well. It was a complicated game, but we were brave. I believe I can do better, but I am very grateful for the minutes the coach is giving me. I try to use them as best as I can.
Today we saw the best Raul there is. He is a unique player and proved so in a very important game.
METZELDER
We knew this was a difficult venue in which we lost last season. The team was in a difficult situation, but I think we proved to fight like animals to the end in order to win. We are very happy and we are well in the chase of Barcelona. This is crazy, but the streak we’ve been having in the past few weeks can help us catch up to them. We will play an amazing game next week.
The match against Barcelona will be amazing and the entire world will be watching. Winning is all that counts and that’s what we’ll try to do at the Bernabeu. It will be hard work and we will have to concentrate and position ourselves well. We’ll have to do the same against Valencia and Villarreal. The defence will take centre stage, but we have to win and we will.
Our style isn’t the best there is, but we fight, run… We know we are a quality team and that we can play better, but victory is all that counts in these games and we try everything we can to achieve this. These aren’t normal league games; they are finals in which we have to give our all. We would like to play better, but winning is all that counts for now, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. We are having a good run.
We defended rather well and I even managed to serve an assist. My job is to defend and help the team out, but centre backs can sometimes serve assist. I received the ball and, luckily, a goal came from my pass. I am very happy with this game. I had to help the team and I did.
RAUL
Sevilla scored the opening goal, but the match was even in the second part of the first half and we scored before half-time. The strike made us confident. We had faith in ourselves and dominated throughout the second half with goals and several chances. We can’t stop now; we must continue to work hard. We are happy because we achieved our goal and we hope to take three points on Saturday.
We knew Sevilla would complicated things for us, but games last 90 minutes and we knew we would have more possession as the match unfolded. That’s what happened. The team did brilliantly.
We used our chance to reduce the distance on the table, but Barcelona have the league in their hands. Complicated games follow, such as the one against them next weekend, and we’ll have to keep winning in order to see how far we can get. The match will be complicated, but I hope the atmosphere at the Bernabeu and the streak we are having help us win.
I’m proud of the squad and the technical staff for pulling off this run, which is a testament to the greatness and history of this crest. I’m honoured to wear this shirt, especially today. The team’s victories are all that count. I am naturally happy about my hat trick, but it’s simply been the finishing touch to a great collective effort.
Sevilla 2-4 Real Madrid
Real Madrid won their first game in five years at the Sanchez Pizjuan and are now just four points behind Barcelona. Renato scored in the 15th minute, but the Whites relentlessly fought back to win 4-2. Raul scored his third hat trick in La Liga against Sevilla.

Much was at stake for both Sevilla and Real Madrid tonight. The Whites needed a victory to be just four points behind Barcelona, while the Andalusians wanted to cling to the third spot on the table.
Raul was the sole striker at the start of the match, flanked by Higuain and Marcelo down the wings and with Guti feeding them balls in midfield. The number ’14′ was fiercely marked by Duscher and was unable to connect with his team-mates in the opening minutes. Sevilla had a fierce start, especially through Kanoute and Perotti. The former had the first chance on goal of the match with a forced shot that Casillas managed to clear. Renato scored a header moments later (15′) and put even more pressure on the Madridistas.
But local dominance faded after 20 minutes, as soon as Guti found a way to get rid of Duscher. The Whites found room to attack and Palop was forced to defeat Higuain in a one-on-one on the 29-minute mark. The Argentine had another chance, but his shot was off target. Real Madrid looked for an equaliser with organised tactics and preventing Sevilla to find the drive they had at the start of the match. Metzelder ran down the right wing and crossed the ball into the box, finding Raul, who scored the equaliser.
Real Madrid had the initiative at the start of the second half and Sevilla looked somewhat lost. Luis Fabiano was brought on to put an end to this, but the Madridistas kept trying and Raul eventually scored again from a nice shot.
The captain seemed to want more and netted yet another strike three minutes later after taking advantage of a mistake by keeper Palop. Raul’s hat trick in Seville was crucial to the Whites’ climb on the table. It was his third in La Liga. The captain shares top-scoring honours on the team with Higuain thanks to his 18 strikes this season.
Raul always steps up when his team needs him. Real Madrid needed goals against Sevilla and he provided three of them. This was the captain’s third hat trick in La Liga. The previous two were both against Valladolid, in the 1998/99 and 2003/04 campaigns. Sevilla are now his fourth favourite victim, behind Espanyol, Valladolid and Racing Santander.
Sevilla fought back, scored through Capel and tried hard for an equaliser, but Marcelo defeated Palop in a last minute one-on-one and sealed the match.

Lanzarote 1-3 RM Castilla
Real Madrid Castilla had a spepctacular start to their match in Lanzarote and scored two goals in less than 15 minutes through Palanca and Szalai. Oscar Martin scored for the locals to no avail, given that Zamora netted a third for Castilla, who took three very important points in their climb to the playoffs.

Lanzarote: Miguel; Angel Gil, A. Martin, R. Rodriguez, Osvaldo; Vladimir, Oscar Martin, Jota, Ayoze; Marciot, Toñito. (Francis and Pelegrin also played).

Sevilla vs Real Madrid | Spanish Primera Liga | Round 33 | Preview
Winning in Seville tonight at 19:00 CET would leave the Whites just four points shy of Barcelona, who drew against Valencia last night. Real Madrid are ready to do their best despite the absences of Pepe, Sneijder, Heinze and Robben. Winning would also establish a new record: eight consecutive away victories.

Tonight’s match will be very exciting as it pits the runners-up against the third team on the table. Juande Ramos’ boys could break the record of consecutive away victories established by the legendary 1960/61 side coached by Miguel Muñoz. Real Madrid have won sixteen games and drawn just one in the last 17 weeks, taking an impressive 49 points out of 51.
Higuain’s booking against Getafe was lifted, allowing him to play against Sevilla tonight. Unfortunately, important men like Robben, Pepe, Heinze and Sneijder will have to miss the game, all because of injuries except for Pepe, who’s place will probbaly be taken by Christoph Metzelder. Miguel Torres will play as right back, allowing Marcelo to play as a interior left midfielder. Gago and Lass will once again act as playmakers, wile Higuain, Raul and Huntelaar will take the attacking front.
Sevilla lost their last three games against Getafe, Valencia and Barcelona, and will try hard for a win tonight. The fact that Valencia drew against Barça last night has left them just one point behind Sevilla, whose aspirations to make the Champions League next year have become threatened.
Frederic Kanoute and Luis Fabiano will be coach Jimenez’s lethal attacking front -together they have scored more than 160 goals at Sevilla-. Keeper Palop and Andriano have also recovered in time for the match.
Lass returns and Higuain will play
Nineteen men have made Juande Ramos’ squad list for the match against Sevilla. Lassana Diarra was suspended for the last game but will travel to Seville. Gonzalo Higuain’s booking against Getafe was lifted, meaning he will travel with the team. Huntelaar, Cannavaro and Faubert also made the cut. Someone will be dropped before the match begins. Pepe has been suspended for ten games and will therefore miss the clash. Heinze, Robben and Sneijder are out due to injury, while Parejo and Codina will stay in Madrid following coaching decisions.
SQUAD LIST

Juande press conference
Juande Ramos said every game is important and that points become more crucial with each passing week.

What do you think of Pepe’s suspension?
I think they may have exaggerated a bit, but I respect any decision made by a committee. I totally accept it, but we’ll see if the Club decides to apeal or let it go.
Do you still excuse his behaviour?
I think I was misinterpreted. I still think he lost his mind and that he didn’t know what he was doing when he made those kicks. I don’t think he wanted to hurt the player; I simply think he lost his mind and started to kick around. That’s what I meant to say.
How do you expect your return to Seville to be like? There’s talk of a wild atmosphere, of money notes with your face on them…
It will be an important match for both clubs. We have different goals, but the three points are very valuable to both teams. We will have to centre our efforts on winning the game. I think the notes with my face are just an example of the fun people in Sevilla like to have. I think it’s great because I won’t need to buy any notes to play Monopoly (laughs).
This could be a crucial week, but there’s been little talk of football.
It’s true that the game hasn’t been talked about much. There’s also been a match-day in mid-week and those games have centered all the attention. We must concentrate on the match in Seville because it is very important. There are fewer games left and points gain more importance every week. One defeat from us and a victory from Barcelona would practically decide the outcome of the season. The same applies to Sevilla because they want to make the Champions League next year.
Do you like needing bodyguards for the match in Seville?
I love traveling to Seville. Real Madrid always travels with security because it is a great Club. It needs more security when it travels to cities with larger populations, like Barcelona, Pamplona, Bilbao, Valencia, Seville… It isn’t just applied to me.
Getafe’s President said that behavior like that displayed by Marcelo and Pepe the other day generates a greater dislike for Real Madrid at other stadiums.
I’m not going to comment on what he said. The only thing I’d like to say is that there is a special ‘language’ players speak on the pitch. The expression ‘what happens on a pitch, stays on a pitch’ is true. There are many things we don’t know about. I believe that in order for a player to behave like that something must have happened beforehand. Those of us who were players in the past know this.
What Pepe did on the pitch is a criminal action on the streets…
Do you really think someone on the street feels the same as a player who is performing before 100,000 people and is risking losing the league title? Nevertheless, I don’t think what he did can be justified. He lost his nerves and went crazy.
What worries you more about Pepe’s absence?
Nothing really. Every player has his own characteristics. I’m sure whomever takes his place will be worse than him at some things and better at others. People talk much about the absences on the team, but that’s what worries me the least. Real Madrid has over 20 players in order to pull through this sort of situation. If we fail to do so it will because we simply couldn’t pull it off; it won’t have anything to do with being better or worse.
Have you spoken to Marcelo about his behavior?
We should handle these situations with care, but things that happen during a game are always preceded by something else.
How does Pepe feel about the suspension?
He is beginning to get used to the idea because he knew the punishment was going to be severe. He knows he has to pay for what he did. He is a good lad.
Would it be convenient to leave Marcelo off the squad list as a lesson for what he did?
Real Madrid isn’t going to drop players for whatever reason. We aren’t going to give a perfectly fit player a holiday in Madrid for the weekend.
How do Huntelaar and Cannavaro feel?
They trained with the rest. They naturally still feel a bit niggled, but there are 24 hours left for the game, during which we will decide what to do with them.
Casillas and Canna to Realmadrid.com
Iker Casillas and Fabio Cannavaro believe it is essential for the team to win in Seville tomorrow.

Casillas
Every game is a final for us and the match against Sevilla tomorrow will be no exception. A negative result would make things easier for Barcelona if they win. Nothing would be lost mathematically if we lose tomorrow, but if that happens and Barça win, we would be practically waving the title goodbye. We have to be patient. The beautiful thing about this championship is that there is still room for susprises.
I think our calendar is more complicated than Barcelona’s; we have tougher opponents. There will be something at stake for every side that faces us. Our life will be at risk in Seville. This is the most complicated part of the campaign and we have notable absences on the team. I think it’s good for spectacle that a league is this exciting.
Cannavaro
The match against Sevilla will be very complicated. I’ve been in Madrid for two and a half years and I’ve never defeated them in Seville. We have to do it in order to put more pressure on Barcelona. It would be too hard to come back from a nine-point distance. The Clasico at home is the following week, but it is now important for us to win tomorrow. It is vital.
It is an exciting matchday because it pits the runner-up with the third team on the table, the leader with fourth. We must concentrate, be humble and work hard to achieve something important.
Pepe to be banned for Just 10 games
I am totally against violence on the football pitch (except for cases where the recipient is Alex Ferguson or some other Red Cunt) and I think what Pepe did was indeed wrong. And as we expected he has been banned and as requested by Getafe president Angel Torres for 10 games. He will now miss Real’s remaining six games of the season, including next week’s home match against Barcelona, after the ruling by the disciplinary committee of the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) stated that he will be banned for 10 games.

However Real Madrid interim president Vincente Boluda has since vowed to fight the ban. Boluda told Spanish daily Marca:
What a catastrophe! The punishment doesn’t match what happened on the pitch.
Ahaan?!
Pepe will now miss the remainder of our games this season as well as facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines at the beginning of the 09/10 campaign.
On the other hand, Gonzalo Higuain’s booking of the same match has been lifted. He can thus play the match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan!
Para Siempre Blanco!
Hala Madrid!!
Juande to Realmadrid.com
On Sunday, Juande Ramos will return to a stadium in which he was very successful: the Sanchez Pizjuan. The coach remembers his years at Sevilla in this exclusive interview.

Seville is a special city for you. What memories do you have of it?
I have unforgettable memories. I spent the best years of my coaching career in Seville. That’s where I won more titles. Returning to the city and to the Sanchez Pizjuan will bring back fond memories.
This is a record-breaking Real Madrid side. You will surpass Miguel Muñoz’s historic side by earning an 8th consecutive victory in Seville.
We’ve been lucky to break records thanks to our hard work. It’s curious that we could break a new one at a stadium in which I’ve been very successful.
Every title you won at Sevilla is important, but the two UEFA Cups probably stand out because they gave the club an international presence. Which is your favourite?
It’s hard to choose. Sevilla had never won a European title before. They had King’s Cups and a league title, but no European accolades. The UEFA Cup we won in Eindhoven meant a lot to the team, the city and the club. Sevilla had a reputation of failing in important games, but that victory killed all those fears and anxieties. It was beautiful to win that title, but the best part was the reception people gave us in Seville; it was indescribable.
It marked the beginning of a new era at the club…
It did, especially because most of us on the team had never won a title before. We were humble sportsmen that originally came from humble teams without chances of winning trophies. That Sevilla will always be remembered thanks to our hard work and drive. They gave us a spectacular reception in the City Hall. It left its mark on me. We then went on to win many more trophies, but I think my favourite was the first UEFA Cup.
Sevilla’s fans are strong and fun. How is it to hear them from the bench?
The support of fans in Seville is extremely important, so much so, that the Spanish national team didn’t lose when it played in Seville for years. Both Sevilla’s and Betis’ fans identify with their teams and carry them to success. I will never forget the semifinal against Shalke 04. The fans gave us an extra push that is found in very few other stadiums.
It will also be Sergio Ramos’ return to Seville. He always mentions Antonio Puerta when he wins a title. What do you think of when you see him do things like that?
He is a Sevilla supporter and a professional that does his best at Real Madrid and on the Spanish national team. He was born and raised in Seville and proves his Sevillismo whenever he has a chance. Antonio Puerta is on his shirt during every important moment. This says a lot about Sergio Ramos and shows his most human and humble side.
You won two of your titles with Sevilla at the Bernabeu…
Some things in life are hard to explain. We won the King’s Cup and the Spanish Super Cup here. I now sit on Real Madrid’s bench. I still haven’t won anything at my new club, but I won two of my titles with Sevilla here… It’s quite striking…
Is there a place you are especially fond of in Seville?
I can’t possibly pick one. Doing so would imply forgetting about many others. Every place in Seville is lovely. I love its people, the friends I left there, and the way they celebrate Easter.
Marcelo press conference
Marcelo decided to talk to the press in order to clarify what happened during the match with Getafe. The player admitted his behaviour was inappropriate.

Sad, sorry… How do you feel?
I’m happy because we took three points. Barcelona won again yesterday, so we couldn’t reduce their cushion in the end. We will fight to win the title.
Can you explain the incident between you and ‘Cata’ Diaz?
It was a very tough match. You want to win a game at all costs and you sometimes make mistakes. I did what I did and I said I was sorry. Things that happen between players shouldn’t leave the pitch. I want to say I’m sorry and, if the Club decides to punish me, I will accept its decision.
Are you aware of what happened?
Yes, that’s why I’ve admitted I made a mistake. A Real Madrid player should never do a thing like that. You learn from your mistakes. It was a tough game and we were all worked up.
Have you spoken about it with the veterans on the squad?
Raul has given me some advice. He said I should learn from my mistakes.
Has the Club told you it wishes to punish you?
I would understand if it decided to do so. I will accept its decision if that’s what it thinks should happen.
You even touched your crotch…
I didn’t do that, but I did stick my tongue out and I’m sorry for it. These actions should stay on the pitch.
What do you think of what happened to Pepe?
Pepe is always happy and laughing. He clearly made a mistake and I’m sure he’s sorry. We must support him because he’s always helped the rest of us out.
Have you spoken to him?
I think he should be left alone, but I must say I had never seen him act like that. He made a mistake and I’m sure he’s sorry.
Can that incident tarnish the great run you are having this year?
I’m in good form and I want to keep improving. I don’t think what happened will have a serious effect on us. We must think about Sevilla and win come what may.
You won against Getafe, but you paid a high price with the absences of Pepe and Robben for the next game…
They are important, but other players on the squad can take their place. We must be united and I believe we will do well in Seville.
What did you think of Barcelona’s game against Sevilla?
We must only think of ourselves. Nevertheless, Barcelona resolved the match early on with Iniesta’s goal. We thought Sevilla could do more at Camp Nou.
They may have been thinking about the match against you…
Every team wants to defeat Real Madrid. Look at how Getafe played in Barcelona and how they did over here. I’m sure it will be no different against Sevilla. Real Madrid’s badge means a lot and everyone wants to defeat us.
What advice has Juande given you to defeat Sevilla?
He told us our team spirit and faith the other day were very positive, and that we should capitalise on them in Seville.
Pepe to Marca
Pepe talked about the incident during the match with Getafe in an interview with Marca. The defender apologised again for what he did. He said he is having the hardest time of his life and that he will never act like that again.
Now that a few hours have gone by since the Tuesday incident, how do you feel?
I’m distraught and I feel very sad. I feel like I’ve let myself down. I only find words to say I’m sorry to the players, their families, the fans and my team-mates. I didn’t act well.
What explanation can you give for your reaction after tackling Casquero inside the box?
I don’t know myself at that moment. I lost control during several minutes. I wanted to win in order to stay in the fight for the league title. My drive for a victory made me force a penalty.
How much is pressure to blame for what happened?
Those close to me know what football means to me and what I did was dishonest. I wanted to win the game because I regard the Club as my home. We needed three points and my mind twisted when I saw things were getting complicated. I thought I was to blame for Real Madrid losing the league title when I provoked the penalty. I was frustrated.
How have the past few hours been like for you?
That was the longest night of my life. I had never felt like that before and I hope I never do again. I fell asleep after 5 am and woke up at 8 am.
You seem to be greatly affected by all this. Have you cried?
I would be lying if I said I haven’t. I have shed some tears, but I’m lucky to have people around me to support me. I’m sure this will never happen again because I want to set a good example for my children. The worst punishment I could suffer is what I’m going through these days.
Have you personally apologised to Getafe’s players?
I’m going to ask Real Madrid to get their phone numbers. I want to apologise to Casquero, Albin and their families.
Robben to miss El Clasico and Pepe probably the rest of the season
Arjen Robben will be sidelined for up to three weeks thus missing the clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and El Clasico the week after. The Dutchman lasted just 18 minutes of Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Getafe after tearing a muscle in his right calf following his second-half introduction from the bench.

A statement on the official website said:
Tests run by the club’s medical staff have determined Arjen Robben is suffering from a tear on his right calf. He is expected to miss two to three weeks.
Sneijder too will miss up to 4 weeks thus joining Robben on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Pepe faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the referee reported him for kicking and punching two Getafe players. Referee Carlos Delgado Ferreiro said in his report:
The home player (Pepe) kicked the fouled player (Javier Casquero) and punched an opponent (Juan Albin) in the face. The said player then directed the following phrase at the fourth official as he was leaving the pitch: ‘You are all sons of whores’.
Delgado added that Pepe also broke the rules by coming back on to the pitch to celebrate Gonzalo Higuain’s winner with his teammates.
It seems that Pepe can indeed expect and increased suspension given the content of the referee’s report and the club may also take a dim view of the defender’s unsavoury actions. Iker Casillas, who saved Casquero’s penalty, said:
You cannot do what Pepe did while wearing the Real Madrid shirt.
The saint has spoken. Pepe must be punished!
As far as I am concerned I really don’t know what to do to him. Punishment is mandatory but how severe is questionable. I am not even able to think about it. I am so full of Madridismo and in awe of what Higuain did (yet another time) that I am overlooking whatever he did. No doubt that it wasn’t the right thing to do.
So that makes it Pepe, Sneijder and Robben out for the Clasico. Last time we played them we had 13 fit players and sported the likes of Salgado and Palanca on our lineup. I hope it is much better this time around.
Para Siempre Blanco!
Hala Madrid!!
Post-match comments
Pedja Mijatovic was very satisfied with the team’s victory over Getafe. Juande Ramos was very happy with his team’s epic victory against Getafe at the Bernabeu. Shocked and sorry for what he did, Pepe asked to be forgiven for the action that got him sent off. Gonzalo Higuain scored two goals against Getafe and Fernando Gago was the team’s leader in midfield. Both men were proud of the team’s victory.

Mijatovic:
I like this sort of game, but I would like to win earlier on because I’m afraid we will have a heart attack sooner or later. The result is what’s important. Winning was all that mattered today and it isn’t easy to play with such pressure. Our boys are hanging on.
This game reminded me of those from three season’s ago, but what’s important is that we are just three points behind Barcelona, at least for the night. We’ll have to see what they do. We are still alive.
There will be many absences on the team against Sevilla and that’s a real shame. Robben, Sneijder and Heinze are injured, and Higuain and Pepe are suspended. The squad knows just how important our next game is and every player will do his best to keep this up until the end of the campaign.
Gonzalo Higuain has been having a great season all year. He scores goals and participates in every attack. He also serves assists. He’s bloomed this season and I hope he keeps it up until it ends. He is a very young quality player, and I’m sure he’ll pull it off.
The pressure is Barcelona’s now. Sevilla are an uncomfortable opponent that is fighting to stay in the Champions league qualifying positions. Anything can happen. We hope to defeat Sevilla and stay in the fight for the title.
Juande Ramos:
Real Madrid is an institution used to this type of comeback, and this team always fights to the end. Several unexpected things happened, but the team had faith and managed to turn the score around. We will fight with all our strength while there is still a mathematical chance to win the title.
I don’t want to comment on Casquero’s penalty, but I believe taking it like that was disrespectful given how things were turning out. I nevertheless decline to comment.
I think we were forced to make an epic comeback by our weak performance in the first half. Higuain told me we should have been given a penalty when the score was 1-1. I think none of the things that followed would have happened if we had been given that penalty.
I’m sure Pepe feels sorry for what he did. I think he was thinking about the chance we had just lost and failed to control his temper. I apologise for my men’s actions when there is such tension and the title is at stake.
Robben made the squad list because he was fit to play, but having played so many consecutive games was deemed to possibly be bad for him. We had decided to save his strength, but he had to come on. Javi Garcia came on because Gago positioned himself as a defender in order to create ball movement from the back.
We are going to appeal Higuain’s yellow card because he clearly should have been awarded a penalty. On the other hand, I think Pepe lost his temper but didn’t intend to hurt anyone.
Throughout a season you sometimes win thanks to luck. I think we were lucky Getafe missed their penalty and we scored a third goal.
The entire team works on scoring a goal. It is impossible for a striker to score without the work of those behind him, but we are nevertheless delighted with the great progress Higuain is making.
Pepe:
I feel terrible; never in my career had this happened to me. I can only ask for the fans’ forgiveness because my actions weren’t good.
Many people know I’m not like this, but I was very tense. I ask all the players, their families, referees and all football fans to forgive me. I now have to wait and see what happens.
The play started in a penalty Higuain should have been awarded. Getafe began a counterattack. I touched a player and forced a penalty. Everybody saw what followed. I can only say I’m sorry.
It was a terrible thing to do, but I was very tense. I’m human and must fail sometimes. The important thing is that I know what I did is wrong and that’s why I ask everyone to forgive me.
Nothing like this has ever happened to me. I am a happy person who enjoys life. I always try to see the bright side of things. I don’t know what happened. I was so much into the championship that I did something completely alien to me.
The only thing I’m certain of is that I’ve played many games for Real Madrid. All people have to do to realise I’m not really like this is look back at them. I know I must be punished. It is paramount to set an example, but my CV shows I never do stuff like this.
Higuain:
This is the beauty of football: we were losing in the 40th minute and managed to score after they missed a shot. The beauty of football is that things change all the time. Our spirits would be very different if we had lost. We must enjoy ourselves and congratulate the whole team. The league is far from over.
I shot and scored. That’s the beauty of this sport. The important thing is that the strike gave us chances to win the title. I shot confidentlly with my left foot and I was lucky it went in. I’m happy about it, but there are 24 players on this team and we all work equally hard. We won thanks to everyone’s efforts.
This game could be compared to those of two season’s back. We are three points behind the leaders and we’ll have to see what they do tomorrow. We must be calm and rest to prepare for our next game, which will be tough.
I can only thank the fans. This victory is for them and for those who always support us.
We could have lost the league tonight, but we luckily won the game and we’re still in the fight for the title. We are happy, but there are many games left in the season.
Gago:
These games are beautiful when they end in a victory because the adrenaline they generate is incredible. We started losing and we knew a draw wasn’t good enough. We eventually took three very important points by leaving style aside; these games must be won.
Higuain scored an amazing goal. He is having a great run and he is a brilliant player.
I like this sort of game because it can’t really be analysed. We won, that’s it. We didn’t play well in the first half. Our game was imprecise, but we eventually won. Arjen’s injury hurt us, but we pulled rank.
What Pepe did happened during a heated moment in the clash. No one should react that way, but we must move forward and think about the tough games that will follow.
I’m not worried and I’m also anxious to play in Seville. Barcelona are playing very well and their cushion over us is considerable, but our job is to win every game. We have the advanntage because we still have to face them at home. Every match is a final from now on.
Real Madrid 3-2 Getafe
Real Madrid snatched three points in a heart-stopping game. Getafe scored the opening goal and Higuain netted the equaliser just before half-time. Albin scored for the visitors close to the end, but Guti drew the score again from a masterly free-kick. The winner came from Higuain’s feet two minutes into overtime.

Both sides had several chances on goal at the start of the fixture. Getafe, far from simply focusing on defending, had the first when Soldado sent the ball over the crossbar on the 3-minute mark. A few minutes later, Granero crossed the ball into the box and Soldado defeated Casillas with a header (9′).
Marcelo reacted and tried his luck with a long shot in the 11th minute; Van der Vaart failed to find someone to finish off many of his free-kicks; Raul came close to scoring when Marcelo gave him the ball following a great run down the left wing (16’)… Meanwhile, Getafe tried to distance themselves on the scoreboard and Soldado nearly scored in a one-on-one with Casillas, but his shot was off target.
Just when it seemed the Blues were sure to go into half-time with a favourable score, Gonzalo Higuain stepped up, took advantage of a mistake made by the opponent’s defence and scored. This counterattack began when Gago clerared the ball, sending it to Raul, who controlled it with his chest and passed it to Higuain.
Robben came on for Van der Vaart in the second half, but had to be replaced by Drenthe 15 minutes later because of an injury. Getafe brought Belenguer on for Mario. Nothing changed much at the start of the last 45 minutes, but Real Madrid had slightly more chances. Ramos and Huntelaar nearly scored on the 50-minute mark, while Getafe focused on playing touch football. Keeper Stojkovic defeated Huntelaar in a one-on-one (71′) in just one of many ventures in attack the Whites had in just a few minutes. He was also forced to defeat Higuain, and Belenguer covered his back when Ramos seemed to have vanquished him (79′). Real Madrid kept trying, but Getafe got the upper hand when Albin scored from a counterattack on the 84-minute mark. This could have been a hard blow for the Madridistas, but Guti pulled rank and scored from an impressive free-kick, levelling the score once again.
Moments later, Casquero was tackled inside the box and awarded a penalty, but his strange shot -in the manner of Palenka- was saved by Casillas. The crowd went wild and, during the frenzy, Higuain scored an amazing goal far from the box with his left foot. In the end, Real Madrid earned an amazing victory and are very much alive in the fight for the title.

Real Madrid vs Getafe | Spanish Primera Liga | Round 32 | Preview
Getafe have always managed to get something out of their games against Real Madrid, but taking points at the Bernabeu won’t be easy this year. The Whites need a victory to keep their options in the championship alive. There will be new faces on the starting lineup due to the absences of Lass, Heinze and Sneijder.

Real Madrid have grown accustomed to winning. The team hasn’t lost in La Liga since December and must keep this up against Getafe. Guti’s return to the squad list will be essential to cover the absences of Lassana Diarra (suspended) and Wesley Sneijder (injured). Real Madrid’s lineup will therefore probably be as follows: Iker Casillas; Ramos, Pepe, Cannavaro, Torres; Guti, Marcelo, Robben (or Van der Vaart); Raul, Higuain and Huntelaar.
The squad is determined to win all its games and is so far being successful. This week will be decisive in La Liga because the Whites are set to face Sevilla on Sunday too. That match will be followed by complicated clashes with Barcelona and Villarreal. But first, the Madridistas must defeat Getafe, who are hungry for points and suffering more than they’ve grown accustomed to. The Blues have been very irregular all season and are currently 15th on the table. The match will be marked by the return of Lucas Licht and former Madridista Granero.
Not only have Getafe managed to stay in the First Division ever since they got promoted; they have also played in the UEFA Cup and in two finals of the King’s Cup. Real Madrid and the Blues have clashed nine times, with three favourable outcomes for the Whites, four for Getafe and two draws.
Winning is all that counts in Real Madrid’s fight for the title, and the Madridistas will do their best to snatch yet another victory at the Bernabeu tonight.
Guti back on list
Juande’s 18-man list for Tuesday’s match against Getafe has some new faces on it. Guti and Drenthe have been called up for action, while Sneijder, Heinze and Lass are unavailable. Salgado, Faubert, Parejo and Codina were left off due to a coaching decision.
SQUAD LIST:
Goalkeepers: Casillas, Dudek
Defenders: Ramos, Pepe, Cannavaro, Metzelder, Torres, Marcelo
Midfielders: Gago, Javi Garcia, Robben, Guti, Drenthe, Van der Vaart
Forwards: Higuain, Raul, Saviola, Huntelaar
INJURY REPORT:
SNEIJDER: Grade II muscle tear. Medical treatment and physiotherapy.
HEINZE: Synovitis of the left knee. Medical treatment and physiotherapy.
Juande Ramos press conference
Juande Ramos sounded confident about the upcoming match against Getafe as he offered Monday’s press conference.

How is the team physically-speaking?
It’s fine other than those players who are injured. I think we’re good to go for tomorrow’s match.
Might this be a week in which teams slip up?
Every match but ours is on Wednesday and we’re all in the same boat. The three points in play against Getafe are worth the same as those against Barcelona. We must win, win, win.
Will you rest Robben and/or start Guti?
Robben has had a problem or two when he plays back-to-back matches. Guti has a good chance since we are short in that position.
In this game of cat and mouse, who is feeling more wear and tear, the hunter or the hunted?
I think the hunter because Barcelona are two games ahead of us. They have room to slip up.
In Barcelona there is talk of winning the league in the Bernabeu. Might the rumors be a way of messing with Real Madrid’s head?
We’re doing what we need to do and no one can make us lose focus. Hopefully we don’t lose for a long time, but nothing being said will derail us.
Do you really think Sevilla will be the one to knock off Barcelona?
I’d rather focus on our matches because everything else is out of our control. Every team has its goals and I want to focus on the Getafe match.
Has Faubert apologized for missing training?
The kid made a little mistake and that’s it. He thought they had the day off as usual. It was just a mistake. He knows the rules and will follow them.
Do you think Robben is too much of an individualist sometimes?
All players make decisions at certain times. Sometimes they don’t pan out, sometimes they do. His play against Villarreal resulted in a goal and three points. All players make mistakes and the right call.
How would you describe the job Lass is doing?
We have more than twenty players here and cannot gripe about it. They are all important, but those who haven’t seen much action are able to show their stuff. Winning is our only option. We cannot make excuses and win or lose with Lass.
Do you prefer Marcelo along the wing or in a more central position?
He does well along the wing. He is improving a lot.
Naples or Turin it doesn’t matter, Canna is leaving!
Come end of the season, Fabio Cannavaro’s deal with Real Madrid is set to expire. Reports emanating from Spain suggest that we do have any new deal to offer him and that he automatically will become a free agent.Naples was supposedly his favored destination to spend the twilight of his glittering career but now Juve too are said to be interested in regaining his services. It should be noted that Fabio spent two years with Juve before heading to the Bernabeu in the wake of the Italian match-fixing scandal in 2006 when other stars like Gigi Buffon and Alessandro Del Piero stayed and played in Serie B.

His agent Gaetano Fedele has now announced that his client is a target for clubs in England, Russia and Germany, but has hinted that a return to Juve is more likely. Fedele believes Cannavaro would welcome the opportunity to join Juve for a second time.
Juve’s offer is the biggest and most interesting. There’s every chance this will be the decisive week. Juventus have been really correct and so they have immediately contacted Real Madrid because the player is set to be a free agent. Fabio would be really, really happy to come back to Juve with sums clearly less than the ones he currently earns.
Meanwhile, Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon said he would welcome Fabio Cannavaro’s return to Turin this summer.
Someone of Cannavaro’s experience would be good for any team,” said Buffon. “He would be important on and off the pitch. It’s clear he cannot be a part of the team’s long-term project but then again neither would I as I’m 31.
He’s leaving for sure. But who is going to replace him? Not Heinze for heaven’s sake!
Para Siempre Blanco!
Hala Madrid!!
